The purpose of meeting with a counsellor is to get help with problems in your life that are bothering you or that are keeping you from being successful in important areas of your life.
A general overview of our first few sessions will involve an evaluation of your needs. By the end of the evaluation, I will be able to offer you some first impressions of what our work will include if you decide to continue with counselling, such as our goals, the methods we will use, the time commitment and the tasks involved. Should you decide to commit to the process of therapy, please note that sessions will generally be on a weekly or bi-weekly basis set to a fixed time and day of the week. How long you decide to benefit from counselling care is always up to you.
I work with my clients by providing supportive counselling sessions that aim towards healthy change, development, life balance and growth. This will involve exploring thoughts, feelings and behaviours and taking action to achieve positive change. There will be times where I will use assessment forms and give out tasks or homework to be done in between sessions. Therapy will draw upon Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic techniques, the Satir Transformation Method and/or The Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
An important part of counselling will be practicing new skills that you will learn in our sessions. I will ask you to practice them outside of our meetings, and we will work together to set up tasks for you. For example, I might ask you to keep records, read, or practice relaxation techniques outside of session time to deepen your learning.
It is important that you feel comfortable sharing information with me and whenever possible to indicate when you are not, unless you are choosing to explore an area that is uncomfortable and therefore wish to do so. I view counselling as a partnership and during this collaborative journey I will provide you with a safe and confidential environment to explore difficult life issues.
I suffered from anxiety disorder in June 2012 due to my family and health problems. My friend recommended me to see Ms Lori Chau for help. I met Lori in October 2012. Lori is a nice and pleasant lady that makes me feel relax and comfortable during the counselling sessions. She showed great patience in listening to me and gave positive feedbacks to my problems. She offered me techniques and skills to overcome my anxiety. During that period, my husband was quite difficult to handle my emotion and communicate with me. He did not know how to handle me while I was feeling anxious. I always had conflicts with him. Lori invited my husband to join the counseling sessions with me.
She offered great help in my communication with my husband. Our relation had great improvement after the counselling. My anxiety has also been consistently improved after receiving the counselling service from her. I deeply appreciated for her help.

In general we would be meeting once a week or once every two weeks. This is to allow time in between for tasks and homework to be completed before we meet again. Exceptions are made in some cases to do a series of intensive sessions over a short period of time.
